Thatch is the mat of dead runners and stems between the soil and the green blades. Too much of it and nothing you put on the lawn ever reaches the roots.

We measure it first
Not every lawn needs dethatching, and doing it to a lawn that doesn't need it does real damage. We pull a 100 mm plug and measure the thatch against a rule. Over 19 mm, it's worth doing. Under that, you get a groom and we tell you why.
Buffalo has no rhizomes, so scarifying shears off close to all of its growing points. On buffalo we go wider on the blade spacing, test a hidden area first, and we will say no if the lawn can't take it.
When we won't run the machine
If more than about a third of the lawn is bare or thinning. If the turf lifts by hand. If it's under about six months old. If there's visible disease. If it's already scalped or drought-stressed.
Telling you no costs us a job. Wrecking your lawn costs you a season.
How long it takes
Roughly fifteen to thirty minutes per 100 m² depending on how thick the thatch is, plus the cleanup. The green waste goes with us.
